    1st Scenic Spot - Rajetongmun

    Rajetongmun', which is alsocalled as'Tongilmun' (Unification Gate), is a tunnel going through the rock wall while crossing between Sindu village in Dugil-ri and Yinam village in Socheon-ri, Seolcheon-myeon on the way from Seolcheon-myeon toward Mupung-myeon.

    The tunnel is located around 19kms away from Muju-eup to the north. And during the era of the Three Kingdoms in old days, 'Seolcheon' was a boundary between Silla and Baekjae and was used as both countries' military supply base, and played a role as an important gateway where the western and eastern cultures of the southern region of the Korean Peninsula were exchanged with each other.

    Like this, during the period from the era of Three Kingdoms to Goryeo Dynasty, the regions had been divided into two parts, which have the totally different cultures and civilizations. So, if it is visited on Seolcheon Market days since the region has two different features, such as dialects and customs, etc., even in these days, anyone can distinguish the tow different kinds of villagers from Muju and Mupung only from their dialects.

  • Eunguam

    2st Scenic Spot - Eunguam

    It is located around 2.9km far away from Rajetongmun. Eunguam gained its name because of the shape: It looks as if a turtle-shaped rock is hidden in front of a southern valley of Gusan Village, "Unjangdae". It is also called 'Kangsundae' meaning a place where some female angels used to come down from heaven and take a bath once upon a time.

  • Cheonggeum-dae

    3st Scenic Spot - Cheonggeum-dae

    It is located around 0.5 km South from Eunguam and at the point around 4.4 kms far from Rajetongmun. It is a renowned place with a legend, "Once upon a time, while a female angel, who came down from heaven, stroke a musical instrument, so called 'gayakeum', the water flowing down along the valley made mysterious melodies to the gayakeum accompaniment".

  • Waryongdae

    4st Scenic Spot - Waryongdae

    As walking up around 1.9 km distance along the stream branched from Cheonggeumdae, you reach a place where the water flowing around a cliff, so called 'Ilsadae', makes a pool whirling around a laid dragon-shaped rock.

  • Haksodae

    5st Scenic Spot - Haksodae

    It is located 0.6km far from 'Waryongdam'. Located in the east valley of 'Seobyeokjeong', it is a noted place where there was an old pine tree on which cranes used to live after building their nests.

  • Ilsadae

    6st Scenic Spot - Ilsadae

    It is renowned as one of the Three Scenic Spots of Gucheondong and is also called, 'Suseongdae'. It is located around 6.1kms away from 'Rajetongmun'. It presents the superb view,a ship mast-shape peculiar rock, which is towering high on the west of 'Seobyeokjeong'. During the period of late Joseon Dynasty, a noted scholar,'Song Byeong-seon', retired to hermitage here after building up a pavilion named 'Seobyeokjeong' and made his pen name as 'Dongbang-ilsa' (Only One Scholar in the Orient). And then, he named this place 'Ilsadae' admiring the cleanness of blue-colored rocks and majesty.

  • Hambyeokso

    7st Scenic Spot - Hambyeokso

    It is located by a brook around 0.4km away from 'Ilsadae' and the rocky cliff, which puts down its foot under the water that is pooled for a while after having flown threading its way around Gucheondong valley, looks down the mirror-like jade-colored water.

  • Gauiam

    8st Scenic Spot - Gauiam

    It is situated around 0.3km away from 'Hambyeokso'. The rocks, which look as if they were well masoned, are laid layer on layer and the water flowing over the rocks presents the panoramic velvety scenary.

  • Chuwoldam

    9st Scenic Spot - Chuwoldam

    I'Chuwoldam', which is located around 2kms away from 'Gauiam', shows its abstruse view with the peculiar rock rising high in the middle of the deep and blue pond. When the moon beams in autumn fall down onto the surface of water, the whole surrounding area changes into a heavenly world.

  • Manjotan

    10st Scenic Spot - Manjotan

    It is situated around 0.6kms away from Chuwoldam. The clean water, which flows down through the dense forest and between the peculiar rocks, becomes the shallows wetting the field full of gravels, which are finely laid along the stream sides. The atmosphere of the place, which has been favored by anglers since ancient days, is beyond comparison. And it is also called 'Thmuljae' (valley with water from washing rice) with a legend saying that when 9,000 monks resided in Gucheon-dong in ancient days, the water from washing rice flew down to this place night and day.

  • Pahoe

    11st Scenic Spot - Pahoe

    IIt is one of the three noted places, which is located around 10.9kms away from 'Rajetongmun'. The extraordinary scenic view, which the rapids are hit onto the rocks in a calmly-placed swamp from time to time and immediately are pooled into the swamp again, lets anyone fall into the state of ecstasy as if it were a heavenly world. And together with an old pine tree, so called 'Cheonnyeon-Song', (a 1,000 year old pine tree) standing on a big rock, so called 'Cheonsongam', (Rock with a 1,000 year-old pine tree) by the trail, a small pavilion, 'Pahoejeong', stands on the opposite side of the valley having its legend saying that a great monk, 'Ilji-Daesa', during the era of Silla Kingdom drove in a branch of a pine tree on a rock without any soils and the branch has grown into an old pine tree while having survived until these days.
